Exercise 2: Expressive Lighting

Part 1: I chose the woman with the pearl earring by Varmeer because it shows strict cameo lighting. The foreground, which is consisted of her face, is lit with fast falloff lighting, and has a contrasting background of all darkness. The light source is directly to the left of her shining at her forehead, which illuminates her entire face.

Part 2:  For my try at the cameo lighting technique, I set up my penguin, Scarfy, and put the light source directly to it's left. This creates a form of fast falloff and can be considered cameo. For the lighting, I used a flashlight pointing from across the room to cover only a section of Scarfy's face. It has the same effect as Vermeer's painting, and has the same contrast between foreground and background.
